In Japan only around 1% of the population follow the Christian faith. However, this holiday is nonetheless a big celebration in the country! It is just a little different from our Christmas in the west. For one, Christmas is less of a family oriented event. It's expected that you go out with your significant other, similar to Valentine's day. It’s also a tradition to eat fried chicken and eat strawberry shortcake. Lastly, a popular date destination for the day is going to Disneyland, which celebrates the holiday in full force.
It’s an unofficial holiday but a popular one nonetheless!
